Laphroaig
Laphroaig, meaning the beautiful hollow by the broad bay in Gaellic, was 'officially' founded in 1815 but rumour has it that the brothers Alexander and Donald Johnston actually built it around 1810 when they started farming in the area. The first official registration of the distillery wasn't until 1826. The distillery remained in the Johnston family until 1954. Laphroaig is considered one of the most strongly flavoured of all scotch whiskies.
